CE-ICP-MS Characterization of Nanoparticles
State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Center Jiang Guibin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, recently developed a new method for the size identification and characterization of nanomaterials in complex media. Capillary electrophoresis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry online Combined use (CE-ICP-MS) can complete the identification of nanomaterials, size distribution characterization and related ion detection in complex media in a single test. The results are simpler and more accurate than conventional methods. The related papers were published in the chemical journal German Applied Chemistry (Angew.Chem.Int.Ed., doi: 10.1002/anie.201408927) and were selected as VIP paper (Very Important Paper).
After the paper was published, the Chemistry Views magazine issued a review article entitled Getting the Measure of Nanoparticles. It is believed that this work provides an accurate new method for the identification and characterization of hybrid nanoparticles and can be widely used in the related fields of nanoscience research.
At present, the commonly used methods for size identification and characterization of nanomaterials mainly depend on transmission electron microscopy and light scattering. The combination of capillary electrophoresis and plasma mass spectrometry eliminates the need for sample preparation and can be very conveniently used for quality control of nanomaterial goods and medical products, enabling rapid screening and size characterization of nanomaterials in environmental water samples.
