The thin gasket has less area exposed to the sealing medium at its periphery. Leakage is reduced accordingly. However, the gasket must fill the unevenness and unevenness of the flange sealing surface, so the minimum thickness of the gasket depends on the surface finish of the flange, the compressibility of the gasket, the stress at the gasket, the degree of deflection of the flange and other factors.
2. Choose a narrower gasket as much as possible. Under the same bolt load, the narrower the gasket width, the higher the gasket stress and the greater the sealing pressure, but the gasket will not be cracked or crushed. At the same time, it must have the necessary radial seal channel length and sufficient blowout resistance. The former will cause the fluid medium in the pipe to wash the gasket, which not only pollutes the medium, increases the flow resistance, but also is affected by the gasket material. The media swells and damages the gasket of the compressed part; the latter will also damage the gasket due to environmental corrosion.
