According to foreign media New Atlas, people have previously used fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) panels to repair or strengthen concrete structures. Now, scientists have developed what they call a better FRP, which will halve the number and time of workers required for the application.
Generally, when FRP panels are applied to cracked or otherwise damaged concrete, the resin must first be applied to the surface. According to researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the entire job usually requires up to six workers.
With this in mind, they developed the so-called FasRaP-fast-wrapped fiber-reinforced polymer. It consists of glass fiber-reinforced polymer wrap, pre-coated with a proprietary adhesive resin, which only hardens when exposed to light. Therefore, it is reported that this can be used by only three people, which is half of the time required for traditional FRP.
In addition, since the resin is pre-applied to the wrapper under controlled conditions, it is claimed that the repair / reinforcement quality should be more consistent and easier to evaluate.
In laboratory tests that meet industry standards, the researchers found that concrete columns wrapped with FasRaP can withstand 80% higher loads than ordinary concrete columns. It is said that this is similar to the strength data of traditional FRP.
"Our invention enables the company to save labor costs, increase efficiency, and make structural reinforcement easier to perform," said Ng Kee Woei, an associate professor in charge of this research. "As Singapore and other cities age, this will help them meet future building standards and extend the life of old buildings and structures."
The university is currently commercializing the technology.
An electric Butterfly Valve is a type of valve that uses an electric motor to control the opening and closing of the valve. The valve consists of a disc that rotates around a central axis to control the flow of fluid or gas. When the electric motor is activated, it rotates the disc to open or close the valve. Electric butterfly valves are commonly used in industrial applications such as water treatment, chemical processing, and HVAC systems. They are preferred over manual valves because they offer precise control and can be operated remotely.
