M&S has partnered with Indian retail company Reliance to enable them to transform the company's market. According to the previous franchise relationship, they sold higher-priced British products in small-scale shopping malls and belonged to small-scale high-priced retailers.
Through cooperation with Reliance Retail, M&S is able to open larger shopping malls and reduce prices by purchasing 38% of local products. The company plans to increase the percentage of local purchases in India to over 60% by 2012. Local purchases allow Marks & Spencer to be more flexible in meeting market needs.
