China Becomes the World's Largest Methanol Trade Center

From the first meeting of the Methanol Branch of China Minmetals Chemicals Import and Export Chamber of Commerce recently held in Shanghai, China has become the largest methanol trade center in the world.

Li Xiaoni, vice president of China Minmetals Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, said at the meeting that in 2011 China's methanol trade volume reached 45.8 billion yuan, an increase of 31.9% year-on-year. The domestic trade volume reached 32.45 billion yuan, an increase of 30.1% year-on-year, accounting for 70.8% of the total trade volume; the import and export trade volume reached 13.39 billion yuan, an increase of 36.3% year-on-year, accounting for 29.2% of the total trade volume. In addition, a list of governing members of the methanol branch was also announced at the meeting. 32 units such as China Petroleum Chemical Corporation and Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange became the governing units.

Participants said that the establishment of the methanol branch will help build a bridge between the government and the company, and will play a positive role in the exchange of information in the methanol industry, the expression of industry demands and research policies.
