SGL established a carbon fiber pilot plant in Germany

A few days ago, SGL Group, a manufacturer of carbon graphite and related products, opened its cutting-edge carbon fiber test plant at the Group Research Center in Meitingen, Germany. The new plant will become the core of the "AirCarbon" project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and will cooperate with many European industrial partners for the first time for the development of aerospace high-strength carbon fibers.

On the opening day, nearly 100 guests from the economic, technological, and political fields attended the event. Dr. Gerd Wingefeld, member of the SGL Group Management Committee responsible for the Center for Technology and Innovation, emphasized the importance of the new carbon fiber pilot plant for product and process development: “We will develop the next generation of high-performance carbon fiber products at this new pilot plant. It will be the most advanced of its kind in the world.” Robert Koehler, CEO of SGL Group, emphasized SGL Group’s confidence in the in-depth development of carbon fiber technology.

After the opening ceremony, the honored guests visited the new carbon fiber pilot plant on site.
