US Environmental Protection Agency EPA: Proposed Power Plant Cleanup Act

International Energy Network News: According to court orders, the US Environmental Protection Agency EPA plans to issue a set of new rules and regulations to make coal-fired power plants more environmentally friendly and cleaner nationwide.

According to the EPA and the American Lung Association (American Lung Association), there are 13,000 people in the United States who die every year from poisonous gases emitted by power plants. These gases also cause high costs to patients suffering from them. Coal-fired and fossil-fired power plants emit 84 different kinds of harmful substances, which exceed the 386,000 tons, into the atmosphere every year—more serious than any industrial pollution source.

The EPA defines "hazardous pollutants" as substances that cause harm to people's health or the environment, or both. Such as:

Harmful air pollutants included in coal-fired power plants:

• Acid gases, such as hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride;
• Benzene, ** and other compounds;
• Dioxins and furans;
•formaldehyde;
• lead, arsenic and other metals;
•HG;
• Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH);
• Radioactive materials, such as radium,*.
